Pascal Metrics Scientists to Present at AcademyHealth Research Meeting
Pascal’s Applied Science Group Links Patient Safety Culture and Malpractice Risk
WASHINGTON, DC – June 24, 2010. This year’s AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting will take place on June 27-29, 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts. Pascal Metrics is delighted to announce the acceptance of several abstracts chosen to be included in the meeting. The abstracts are highly reflective of Pascal’s mission and values and will be presented by Dr. Andrew Knight and Dr. Michael Housman of the Pascal Metrics Applied Science Group.
Dr. Andrew Knight, Vice President of Applied Science, is enthusiastic about Pascal’s participation in this year’s conference and says that, “with innovative approaches to gathering data on culture in healthcare organizations, Pascal is committed to advancing the science of patient safety. Pascal’s posters and presentations at AcademyHealth reflect this commitment.” Dr. Knight is the author of Measuring Disruptive Behavior and Exploring its Nomological Network, as well as Leadership and Information Exchange in Surgery Teams: An Observational Study.
Pascal Metrics delivers the only solution that supports both of the major scientifically-validated patient safety culture surveys: the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture. More broadly, Pascal Metrics offers a field-leading range of metrics and analytics well beyond safety culture measurement, all supported by Pascal HealthBench™, the field’s first and leading software-as-as-service (SaaS) solution.
Dr. Housman, Director of Applied Science, will present The Relationship Between Organizational Culture and Medical Malpractice Claims as well as Health Care Specialization and Asymmetric Competition: The Dynamics of Surgery Center and Hospital Entry. According to Dr. Housman, “These conference presentations demonstrate Pascal Metrics’ commitment to advancing the science behind patient safety and quality analytics. We’re very excited to share this work with the broader academic community, which demonstrates the value of culture in shaping patient safety and helping hospitals to manage risk.”
Acknowledged as a leading innovator and advisor, Pascal Metrics brings together academic research, clinical experience, and healthcare technology to provide metrics and analytics in improving patient safety and quality in high-risk environments. Relying on Pascal HealthBench™, both leaders and caregivers are able to implement data-driven interventions and to drive performance improvement. Pascal is dedicated to the proposition that scientific rigor, clinical judgment, and software engineering are all required to build sustainable programs in the largest and most complex healthcare environments worldwide.
Drew Ladner, President and CEO, added, “I couldn’t be more proud of our Applied Science group. While the research that Andrew and Mike have done clearly moves the field forward, these abstracts are merely the tip of the iceberg of what the whole team is doing scientifically to link patient safety culture and risk.” Pascal Metrics serves clients in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The company is headquartered in Washington DC and dedicated to making patients safer globally.
